ETM Podcast Episode 15 – Ben Newell – Decision making

Trauma is all about decision making, so it’s tempting to think that knowing more about how we make decisions might help us do it better. There’s been a lot of hype around System 1 and System 2, metacognition and bias in the Emergency Medicine scene lately that might lead one to believe that we should all use this information to help us make better decisions.

But are we overthinking our “thinking about thinking”? Does knowing about different models of decision making, metacognition and the dozens of biases we are prone to help us make better clinical decisions?

Ben Newell, Professor of Cognitive Psychology and decision making expert, answers these and many more questions in this episode.
