Where do I start?
If you’ve registered for an ETM Course and you’re wondering where to start, we suggest starting with the “Initial Management” section and as a minimum, try to cover the following chapters prior to attending the course:
- Trauma Reception & Resuscitation
- Airway Management
- Breathing: Thoracic Trauma
- Circulation: Shock & Haemorrhage
If you have time, please read through the rest of the manual prior to attending, in particular the Regions of Injury chapters.

Downloading or printing the manual
Due to the rapidly changing nature of trauma science, ETM does not provide hard copies of the ETM Course Manual as we are constantly updating the content. There are also many videos in the online manual that are highly useful for course participants which cannot be viewed in a pdf or print version.
ETM accepts that some participants/manual users prefer to learn from printed material.
To download or print the section you are viewing, click on the download or print icons in to toolbar (top right)
Unfortunately, there is no way to download the entire manual into a single pdf/document with a 1-click download.
Please note: Downloaded/printed copies of the manual are effectively out of date as soon as they are downloaded/printed. ETM accepts no responsibility for participants who make clinical decisions or who fail course assessments based on printed or downloaded versions of the manual. It is the responsibility of the user to familiarise themselves with the online version of the manual prior to course participation and assessment.
